Adobe Related Berthold (BE) or Berthold (BQ)?

Many of Berthold’s fonts are available in two different versions. There is the Adobe Related Version, often identified with a BE suffix and the Berthold version, identified with a BQ suffix. The two fonts are essentially the same, but as they have been ‘finished’ with different font tools there may be differences in spacing and kerning, for example.

Both versions have now mostly been updated with the Euro symbol, however, BE PostScript fonts will not have the Euro.

The choice of version is not really an issue if you are originating work.

However, if you are wishing to output a job that has previously been set, it is best to match with the original font, as there could otherwise be printing problems.

If you are unsure which version has been used it is recommended that you check with the author of the original document. They should be able to check by looking at the font on their computer.

Name variations

In two Berthold fonts there is also a slight difference in the naming, which may help identify the version required.

Delta BQ is known as Delta Jaeger in the Adobe Related Version.

Daily News BQ is known as Jaeger Daily News in the Adobe Related Version.
