You can never have too many type books!

Made with FontFont celebrates the first fifteen years of FontFonts. It is not a catalogue of a type library, but a book of possibilities, and ways to enjoy type.

It focuses on two aspects of type and typography. The process of type design is reflected on in an anthology of essays about FontFonts, and interviews with their designers. The second aspect features a rich collection of pages 'made with FontFont' - an exuberant feast of letterforms illustrated in full colour.

Linotype Type Book

Whether you are looking for inspiration, trying to match a type sample, or sourcing a Linotype font, this is a GREAT book. However, this is more than just a type catalogue. Covering 6,500 original typefaces from the Linotype Library, this book is packed with type samples, information about the fonts, formats, character sets, and technical information partpage

Each typeface display shows a large, 24 point single-line partial alphabet setting in the typeface’s regular weight. If the regular weight has a companion italic, a sample line is set in that as well. In addition, there are three lines of sample copy in 13-point size that show off some of the font’s special characters such as the Euro symbol. Lastly, a sample single-line alphabet showing in 12-point size is available for each of the fonts that make up the respective typeface family.

To make it easier to select a typeface by style, the typeface families are shown grouped together in seven categories: Sans Serif, Serif, Script and Brush, Decorative and Display, Uncial and Blackletter, Pi and Symbol, Central European and Non-Latin. The Central European and Non Latin Typefaces category shows all Linotype typefaces available in formats other than the traditional Western European standard. This includes typefaces for Central European languages, Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, and Armenian. There is also a full alphabetic listing of all the typefaces in the index.

Presented as a hardback book, containing 608 pages,
this is an essential for everyone who uses type.

This book is another favourite of type-lovers. The FontBureau Type Specimens is packed with FontBureau typefaces in use. In addition you'll find font biographies, headline showings, character sets, text showings, a style list and sets of numerals where appropriate. The book is organised into sections with the most legible, readable fonts at the front and the more visually interesting (if less legible) at the back, allowing you to find easily just the typestyle you are looking for.

Or how about Jeremy Tankard's Type Book One? The publication of this book coincides with a major update of Jeremy Tankard's type collection. In addition to comprehensive showings of his fonts - Alchemy, Aspect, Bliss, Enigma, Shaker and The Shire Types - this book includes two texts. The first looks at the emergence and use of the type specimen; the second is a short introduction to OpenType.
