Soho Fonts & Typefaces
Soho was designed by Sebastian Lester, a custom typeface designer at Monotype Imaging, and designer of Neo Sans and Neo Tech fonts.
This extensive Soho font family is availabe in feature rich OpenType Pro format, offering sylistic sets with alternative characters; extended language support; ligatures and small capital. Given that slab serifs are often used in headlines it makes sense to have a variety of widths and weights so that even the most demanding of designers can find the correct weight and width for their needs. Soho has 9 weights and 5 widths of precision engineered OpenType. That’s 40 fonts, 32,668 characters and 24 OpenType features; a culmination of nearly three years work.
Soho Gothic is the latest chapter in the Soho typeface project. 7 sans serif weights, and their respective italics, ranging from a super-chic Thin to a super-solid Ultra.
Developed between 2004 and 2007, Soho Gothic was designed to harmonise well with Soho, it’s slab serif counterpart. Lester states “I want the family as a whole to look effortlessly modern and state-of-the-art. The designs were developed in tandem so that I could think carefully about every aspect of the project and ensure that used together they’d compliment each other as well as possible”.
Stylistic alternates are an intrinsic part of the Soho project. It gives designers greater flexibility when required and simply makes a typeface more useful. The stylistic sets in these fonts bridge the gap between Soho and Soho Gothic with a suite of semi-slab alternates that are accessible via some of Soho Gothic’s 25 OpenType features.
