Coincidentally, Ishi is the Japanese word for stone, which precluded any squabbling about whose name the font would carry. Designed to meet the requirement of low resolution laser printing, the Stone family consists of three types of fonts, a serif, a sans-serif and an informal style. The styles are very legible and make a modern, dynamic impression. The ITC Stone fonts work harmoniously together, giving the typeface a wide range of applications from business documents and reports, to books and magazines.
With proportions based on Sans Serif, Stone Sans follows the characteristics of the Humanist tradition with its complementary thick and thin components. Contrastingly, other aspects of the design are derived from gothics and grotesques.
